His loyalties are hard to gauge to say the least. Matthew at the moment, is very out of his depths in terms of the supernatural community and is just trying to coast on by with little knowledge or understanding of it.

Though he's had interactions with the Seelie in the past thanks to his romance with Lyra Lore, he wants to avoid them to the best of his abilities. He's more or less unwittingly allied with Redbright since that's where his daughter is going to go in the future thanks to her metahuman status. He'll continue his job as a pub owner and try his best to be a good dad, trying to avoid getting in trouble for Margaret's sake.

Background:

Supplement history can be found HERE. You could only imagine his surprise when he discovered he was a dad in 2013. Almost an entire year after his amiable breakup with his girlfriend, Lyra Lore, he woke up to an annoying but insistent knocking on his door of his apartment door one evening. He didn't expect a lot of things when he went to open it. Maybe someone looking for help. Maybe someone asking for charities and hoping to catch him off guard at that unholy hour to get more money. He did not expect a small wicker basket containing a newborn on his doorstep. Taking the child in, he inspected the baby (girl) and her basket for any clues. All he found was a stunning miniature hourglass and a note written in a familiar hand. She's better off with you. -- Lyra. And that is where babies come from if you happen to be Matthew Brown. He tried to find Lyra again and get some answers. To his frustration but not to his surprise, he was unable to find Lyra. Her apartment was empty, her neighbours claimed they had no clue where she went off to, and the bar she worked at claimed she never came to work after the day of his breakup with her. So he found himself raising Margaret, named after his grandmother, all alone. It was difficult and stressful and downright exhausting but he honestly would say he wouldn't trade a second of it thanks to the joy of hearing her first word and the excitement of having her smile up at him after a long night of trying to get her to stop crying. He almost got the hang of it too if not for a sudden curveball being thrown at his way recently. When working at his pub the Watering Hole a few weeks back, Margaret in his office being looked after by one of the waitresses, he found himself getting dragged into a fist fight that soon escalated into a knife figh. Matthew found himself getting jumped and he really thought that was it when the guy took a swipe at his neck-- Only the blade snapped in half upon making contact with his skin. He managed to regain his wits to knock the asshole out and have someone subdue the fight to something more manageable. He rushed to make sure Margaret when he could get away from everyone's attention and both he and the girl looking after her were kind of freaked out to see a soft golden glow surrounding her hands. After bribing the girl considerably to keep quiet about what she saw that night, Matthew began to realise that things may not be simple as they appear to be on the surface as he recalls strangers trailing after him, people being too curious about his little girl, and waking up in the middle of the night to see something just vanish outside his window. He doesn't think the baby books he read up before ever covered this.

Personality:

Matthew is a man who is just trying to get by.

Powers & Possessions:

With no magic or powers, being a human being through and though, he definitely cannot get into a fight with any random vampire and werewolf and hope to win. He does have some advantages over others. He's an excellent thief and pickpocket thanks to his hooligan years and is still nimble and quick with his fingers. He was a boxer before he retired from that and still has the skills to prove it, willing to strike hard and fast. He's not afraid to fight dirty either. Most importantly -- He's blessed by his daughter, Margaret, thanks to her metahuman abilities. Though still a baby, she has great potential thanks to her power being Invulnerability Bestowment. Meaning she can make someone invulnerable to harm if she blesses them and she did it for her father thanks to her love for him. There are limits to this due to her seelie heritage. For starts it means only things like iron or steel weapons trying to make physical contact with the person. So bullets are useless but a baseball bat or a nasty punch is still pretty effective on him. The powers also only kick in if something is actively trying to harm Matthew so things like poison can do major damage and mind control magic can still prove effective.

Watering Hole

Located in Hillingdon, Watering Hole is a popular little pub run by the Brown family since the 1950s. Taken care of by Matthew Brown, it continues to be an excellent place to hang out for friends and passerby. This is where you can get the Browns' infamous Irish Coffee.

A small and intricate hourglass commissioned by Lyra Lore and given to her child, Margaret, as a parting gift. Inside the hourglass are beads that hold the oil and properties of protective herbs such as clovers, rosemary, and rowan berries. It's to keep the fae, both seelie and unseelie, away from her.
